Eatons Knee Pants Suits (Canada, 1906)

Figure 1.--Here we have knee pants suits offered by Eatons in 1906 for boys sizes 28 to 33. Eatons was the major Cananadian clothin retailer. We think that means the chest size of the coat, presumably expressed in inches. We are not sure how this would translate into years.

Here we have knee pants suits offered by Eatons in 1906 for boys sizes 28 to 33. Eatons was the major Cananadian clothin retailer. We think that means the chest size of the coat, presumably expressed in inches. We are not sure how this would translate into years. One HBC reader suggests this would be for boys about 10 to 16. We think it might be some what older boys, perhaps 13-18. But we are not at all sure. It is a three-piece suit with waistcoat although the waistcoat (or vest) is hidden when the suit's four front buttons are closed. The boy wears this suit with a stiff starched collar and formal-looking bow tie. Notice the center hair part, the traditional black long stockings, and the hightop shoes in the illustration. I'm not sure what the boy is carrying in his left hand--perhaps a book, which suggests high school. The advertising text reads, "K3868. Boys' Three-Piece Suits. Strong Canadian tweed with good durable linings, as cut K3868, sizes 28 to 33. Original price $3.75. Stock Taking Cut Price, $2.99."
