English Mail Order Catalogs with Boys Clothing: 1882


Figure 1.--A reader has sent us a 1882 fashion plate. Unfortunatly we do not know the publication in which it appeared. We think it is English, although we are not even positive about this. We do not have any accompanying text associated with the plate. It shows men's fashions, but one boy is pictured in a sailor suit. Strangely the boy seems to be wearing white stockings. This is something that is not confirmed in the photographic record. We are not sure if the boy's outfit was being offered for sale or just added for decoration.
