Wards Union Suits: Twin-Fabric (1926-27)


Figure 1.-- Wards in the 1926-27 winter catalog offered two suits were offered under the heading "Part Worsted for Outer Surface, Soft Cotton Next to the Skin". These suits thus had variable fabric on the outer and inner sides. They were braded Twin-Fabric. This seems to be s realatively new feature. We are not sure jus when it first appeared.

Two suits were offered under the heading "Part Worsted for Outer Surface, Soft Cotton Next to the Skin". These suits thus had variable fabric on the outer and inner sides. They were branded Twin-Fabric. "Twin-Fabric" referring to the use of cotton on the inside next to the skin and wool outside for additional warmth. This seems to be a realatively new feature. We are not sure just when it first appeared.

One Half Wool

The Wards ad copy read, "6 to 10 Years $2.59. 12 to 14 Years $3.19. 16 and 18 Years $3.89. 29 E 343—Gray only. Sizes 6 to 18 years. Size wanted. Postage each, 4 cents extra. Boys’ Twin fabric Union Suit with an extra heavy weight half wool worsted surface for warmth. Soft, smooth cotton next to skin for comfort. Flat seams throughout. Close fitting cuffs on wrists and ankles. Wide lapped, special trouser seat. Ankle length."

One Fourth Wool

The Wards ad copy read, "6 to 10 Years [price cropped]; 12 to 14 Years [price cropped], 16 and 18 Years [price cropped]. 29 E 345—Gray only. Sizes 6 to 18 years. State size wanted. Postage, each 4 cents extra. Comfortable Twin Fabric Union Suits for boys. They are all medium weight with 25 per cent worsted surface for warmth and smooth cotton next the skin for comfort. Close fitting wrists and ankles. Closed crotch, wide lapped seat."
