expense to you. It is understood that in each case the stockings will

For Girls. Ribbed to the toe.
These good looking sports ribbed hose are guaranteed to wear. That
means that the materials, the make, and finish must be good, sound and
strong to give the service we promise for these stockings. These are
especially sturdy because the yarn is combed cotton: because an extra
thread is knit into the tops to give added strength and wear resistance
over the knees; because the flat knit seamless feet are well reinforced
at heels and toes. Downright Postive Wear is assured throughout the
stockings, and we know you will not find their equal at this price!"
[N.B. although the illustration indicates that these stockings are
principally for girls, the description of them makes them sound equally
appropriate for boys--and perhaps even more so because of the knee
reinforcement feature. Boys were notorious for wearing out their long
stockings at the knees whereas girls were supposed to be somewhat
gentler on their stockings. The illustration just below shows both
girls and boys wearing the same stockings. Notice that the boy in this
case is wearing not knickers but short trousers. The knees of stockings
would get much harder wear if boys wore short trousers since, with
knickers, the trousers would also cover the knees.]

Glossy, smooth handsome hose, made to look fine and fit well after
months of wear. Because the best of everything goes into these
stockings, the finest, strongest long staple cotton yarns, highly
mercerized, handsomely dyed. The most careful manufacture; precise,
accurate sizing, very fine gauge, and smooth, even finish. These are
distinctly superior in every feature of construction. The long lasting
smartness and strength of these stockings make them appropriate for
everyday school wear and for best."
The ad copy reads, " Mercerized. 25 cents Postpaid. 86T2632--Black.
86T2633--French tan. 86T2639--Camel. 86T2640--Gray. State size. We
Pay the Postage.
Though we originally gave the utmost value that could possibly be
offered for the money--tremendous business on this stocking allowed us
to improve the quality to add finer yarn, to demand higher
mercierization, to secure greater strength and better appearance than
could ever be looked for elsewhere at this price. These are made of
two-ply, strong mercerized yarns knit in the popular ribbed to the toe
style. Reinforced heels and toes. The enormous demand for this
stocking proves that it is the best value in mercerized hose obtainable
at the price!"
