American Advertisements: Marshal Field's Dress Up Clothing (1964)


Figure 1.--Here we have a 1964 Marshal Field's outfits for younger boys and girls. They are matching outfits for brothers and sisters up to 6 years of age. .

We do not yet have nuch information on 1964. We notice a 1964 Marshal Field ad for dressup clothing for youngr boys and girls. Marshall Field’s was a Chicago department store that expnded to become to become an importnt chain before being acquired by Macy's. Their 1964 ad offered two styles of Eton suits and shortalls for boys as well as what looks like a wedding outfit. The Eton suits look like a conservative grey suit and a sprty stripe sports coat for spring summerwear. The shortall outfit could be worn both for play and dressy cassual occassions. The lon pants outfit was wirn with a bloyse hat had a wide collar, It looks suitable for a fancy wedding. The Marshal Field's as copy was captioned, "Dress up your dolls" meaing of course younger children. The ad copy read, read, "Alldoting auties, proud papas, and generous granparents, attention! Our new Merry Mites and Gay Spirits of brother and sister suits, dresses,raincoats, and play clothes makes it child play to mix and match, to buy this and that. And these wee wearables come with marvelous little details that provide for sprouting like straps to make longer, side tabs to move over, and deep hems to let down. Find out if your favorite children mein toddler or regular sizes (up to 6X). Then, the very firt time you are in Chicago come right to Fild's Children's Apparel, Fourth Flor. There is nothing like it back home."
