Best: Simplicity Swewing Pattern: Winter Coats and Nehru Jackets (1968)

Figure 1.-- We note a Simplcity pattern for Nehru collar-buttoning jackets. They were not a specifically popuilar style, except among hippies. We see virtually no examples of boys wearing them in the photographic record. They became a staple, however, among hippies and anti-War protestors. Negru was seen as a symbol pf pacifism even though India actually fought wars. This simplicity packet was for bys size 8. But the illustration was the same for all the different sizes. .

We still see some ads for suits. Suits wee becoming worn less than before, but we see a new sryle--the Negru jacket. We are not sure when they first appeared, probably a few years earlier. Their populrity was aided by the Beatles. It was a hip-length tailored coat, mostly worn by men. It had a mandarin collar, and with its front modelled on the Indian achkan or sherwani. We note a Simplcity pattern for Nehru collar-buttoning jackets. It is griped together with winter coats. Fashion wise there is no relationship, but notice the cur is identical. They were not a specifically popuilar style, except among hippies. We see virtually no examples of boys wearing them in the photographic record, especiall with short pnts as pictured in the cover illustration. They became a staple, however, among hippies and anti-War protestors. Negru was seen as a symbol pf pacifism even though India actually fought wars. This simplicity packet was for bys size 8. But the illustration was the same for all the different sizes. A younger boys with short pants is sgiwn wearing the Nehru jacket, but the pattern here is for biys 8 years old. We are not sure if the packet included patterns for the trousers. We quesrionm howecer, if home sewers were the best demographic for Nehru jackets.
