American Mail Order Catalogs with Boys Clothings: 1970s

Figure 1.--The Sears Summer catalog offered several types of short pants. On this page are walk shorts and camp shorts. The only major difference we notice in both types over time in camp shorts was the hem length.

We are archiving ads here that are undated, but we believe were published in the 1970s. A HBC reader has provided us an ad for summer wear. Unfortunately the ad is incomplete and we do not not know the source. We think it is from a 1970s newspaper, probably a department store ad. It shows an older boy wearing a tank top and camp shorts. The ad copy is missing, so details about the garments are not available. A HBC reader rembers the camp shorts his mother purchased for him at the Hornes Department stores during the 1970s.

We think it is from a 1970s newspaper, probably a department store ad. It shows an older boy wearing a tank top and camp shorts (figure 1). Pants

Camp shorts were a popular type of short pasnts in the 1970s. The unidentified afverisement here shows an older boys wearing camp shorts (figure 1). A HBC reader rembers the camp shorts his mother purchased for him at the Hornes Department stores during the 1970s.

Pajamas

We notice Simplicity patterns for boy's pajamas. There were different options including he collar asnd sleece and leg length. Patterns are more diffucult to date than catalogs. This was in part the case because the pattern compsanies did not want to date them so that buyers would not reject them in the new year. We believe these patterns were from the 1970s.
