American Sewing Patterns: Simplicity Casual Shirts and Pants: The 1980s

Figure 1.-- Here we see Simplicity patterns for many of the popular casual styles. The pattern is not dated, but looks likethe 1980s to us. This pattern came in vsarious sizes, from the illustration, both pre-teens and teens. This particular one was for 10-year olds.

Casual styles were dominant in the 1980s. They were widely worn to school as well as for casual wear. Boys tended to see wearing a collared shirt as dressing up. Garments like "T"-shorts, sweatshirts, and jeans were very popular. Designer jeans were all the rage. "T"-shirts wih logos were in fashion. Denim was the dominant fabric. Short pants contunue popular in the 1980s. Short cut styles were fashionsable. Cord shorts were popular in the early-80s. Tube stoicks were still popular in the early 80s. Boh boys and girls wanted to wear fashionable sneakers rather than leather shoes. Here we see Simplicity patterns for many of the popular casual styles. The pattern is not dated, but looks like the 1980s to us. Note the camp shorts option. The camp shorts pocket arrangement could also be done on long pants. I don't think thsat was very common at the time.
