French World War I Army Orphanage

French orphans

Figure 1.--This is a World War One era postcard. The card promoted the work of an American charity formed to provide aid for French orphans whose parents, mostly soliets, who were killed in World War I. The information on the back of card read: "Orpheliant des Armees" (French Army Orphanage) and "La collection complete des Cartes Postales se trouve au Siege Social, 16, rue de la Sorbonne." This card was one of several designs sold to raise money for the orphanage.

One of the orphanages open in France was opened by an American group and called the Orphelinat des Armees (Army Orphanage) to care for the children of French soldiers. They sold postacards to raise funds to support the orphange. We do not yet have infornmation on the American group or the actualmorphanage bein supported.
