English Children's Periodicals: School Cap

Figure 1.-- We note a magazine called "School Cap". We know very little about it, except that it was entirely devoted to school stories. The cover we see here looks to be from the 1930sm but a British reader suggests it was the 1950s. We have no details on when the magazine was founded and how long it was published.

We note a magazine called "School Cap". We know very little about it, except that it was entirely devoted to school stories. The cover we see here looks to be from the 1930s, but a British reader tells us that the price of the magazine would place it in the 1950s. It was issue No. 1 meaning of course the first issue. We have no details on when the magazine was founded and how long it was published. I think it was a monthly publications, but I am not sure. Ir may say above No 1 "fortnightly". 'No 1', fortnightly? meaning that it was published every 2 weeks. We know nothing about the stories in the magazine. The cover here suggests that even in the 1950s that the school stories continued to fixate on the publice (elite private) schools. A British reader writes, "I was a schoolboy in England during the 1940s and 1950s, and I cannot recollect this publication being on sale. it may have existed in the early or middle 40's, beforeI learned to read." Perhaps it was not a wide circulation publication.
