Individual English Schools -- Whitfield School
Figure 1.--Here we have a class portrait from Whitfield School. The board the boy at the front is faded, but we can just make out 'Whitfield', but nothing more. There are several Whitfields in England, but most are villages. The photograph here of Whitfield school looks like it was taken in the 1900s decade. The photo-back postcard without a stampbox also suggests the 1900s decade. The 1910s is possible, but less likely. We suspect that this is the younger boys at a grammar school, in part because so many boys winning prize awards, most of which would have been for academics. Most boys wear suits with knee pants and long stockings.
Here we have a class portrait from Whitfield School. The board the boy at the front is faded, but we can just make out 'Whitfield', but nothing more. There are several Whitfields in England, but most are villages. And we can't find a Whitfield school with the exception of Whitfield High school in Dundee, Scotland which became Braeview Accademy. But this is not the turn of the 20th century school we see here because it was open in recent years (1976-96). The fact that all the boys wear knee pants and long stockings suggest that it was a school rule, although we can not be certain about that. We see a few sweaters. Several boys wear Eton collars with and without neckwear. Note that the caps several boys hve are flatcaps and not the sclassic peaked school caps that would be standard by the 1910s.
