Boys at boarding schools have various amounts of free times. Free time includes periods after class hours, on weekends, and evenings. Time after classes often involved organized activities and clubs rather than free time. Weekends were not entirely free. Saturday usually meant morning classes. Sunday had church in the morning and often required letter writing home time. Evenings varied. Some schools had study halls. And this varied with age as the younger children had earlier bedtimes. Free time meant that the children can socialize with friends, engage in sports, music, relax in common areas, or simply hang out with friends. All of this depends on school schedules and rules. Of course the age of the children is a factor with younger children requiring more supervision. Older students might even be allowed to go 'off campus'. There are a range of indoor and outdoor activities. School grounds and facilities are a factor here. This of course varies seasonally. They may practice sports or other outdoor activities like biking or skating, In warm weather their might be free swims, Outdoor activities of course is most common in warm weather. Some schools have gyms, especially the public schools, but also some prep schools. But for the most part sports and outdoor activities are less common during the winter months. During the winter boys might play board or skill games indoors. Schools have stocks of board games for such activities. Some schools allow the boys o build 'forts' depending on the grounds. Boys also just play around some times even in class rooms. Schools strictly limit television and video games. Prep schools commnly let the children see the evening news. At the public schools there the students have more access to television. Boys might do some reading or the more diligent even study.
