Individual Greek Schools: Mylopotamos Village School

Figure 1.--We have a school portrait taken in Mylopotamos, a vilage in central Crete. Mylopotamos in Greek means "mill river". There are also several Greek villages with this name. The village is situated in an agricultural anf herding area. It looks like a typical village school on Crete at the time. The school portrait was probably taken during the 1910s. A few children look to be wearing smocks. The children all seem to be barefoot. The boys have close-cropped hair. Put your cursor on the image to see the rest of the school.
