We have very limikted information on individual schools in Tajikistan. Most do not have names, but rather numbers. This is espcially true of primary schools. We do note the Economic High School in Dushambe. I am not sure why the school has that name. It seems to offer the same educational fare as all the rest of the Tajik secondary schools. It is highly regarded by Tajik families who enter their children to sit the entrance examination. It is a Turkish run school. It is one of the schools in the Turkish/Tajik partnership. I believe that it was originally a specialist mathematic teaching school.

School 21

Most Tajik schools do not have names, but rather numbers. This is espcially true of primary schools. The picture here shows Class 1 School 21. It is in Dushanbe. The photograph was taken during May 2003. There are 33 children and this is the morning class. Their school day starts at 8.30 and finishes at 12 noon. The afternoon group starts at 1pm and finishes at 4.30. There are 66 children in the year which is split up into the two classes. You will see that the girls wear large white bows. One girl is wearing long stockings cloured white. The boys wear a variety of footwear. Shoes and sandals all he boys wear long trousers. They wear a black suit. It can include jacket, vest and trousers. the girls have white socks and light summer footwear. The shoes are more colourful than the boys. The boys wear neckties and bowties. Interestingly the morning children think they have the best school time because it is cooler than in the afternoon. The afternoon class think they have the best time because they can go to sports clubs in the morning.

Economics High School

We do note the Economic High School in Dushambe. I am not sure why the school has that name. It seems to offer the same educational fare as all the rest of the Tajik secondary schools. Unidentified Dunshanbe School

This photograph was taken in 1972 in Dushanbe. At the time, Tajikistan ws still part of the Soviet Union. It shows a 4th grade school class. Many children are wearing white shirts. We also believe that they were wearing blue shorts/skirts, but this is difficult to tell. As far as we ca tell, the boys and girls are wearing the same shirts. This apparently was the school uniform. Note that a few children wear shirts with epauettes and a shoulder pathch. I'm not sure if this was the school uniform or Young Pioneer uniform. If it is the school uniform, we are not sure why so few children are wearing them. The uniform does not seem to be required, but most children are wearing it. I'm unsure to what extent the children were required to wear the uniform. Note that many children are wearing young pioneer scarves. I'm not sure why only some of the children are wearing the scarves. This may be an age matter. Perhaps they were not yet old enough to join the Pioneers. There were no strict rules about the uniform. It seems that only white shirt and red neckerchief are mandatory. There are no rules about hosiery and footwear. Here many children wear sandals without socks.
