Figure 1.--Here we see two South African chuldren modeling their school's summer uniform. The school dress code says: Girls: yellow blouse with school logo; wine-red skirt; black shoes (not compulsory). Boys: grey short sleeves shirt; grey short pants; black shoes (not compulsory).

The major seasonal uniform differences in South Africa seems to be that the garments are sonewhat heavier during the winter season. The same situation is compsarable to Australia and New Zealand. We note some schools with light-weight grey cotton shirts and shorts like the summer uniforms worn in New Zealand. We do not know how common this is in South Africa. Nor are we entirely sure of the differences between primaru and secondary schools as well as private and state schools. We notice a few schools wear the boys wear Roman sandals in the summer like the boys here (figure 1). Sandals do not seem as common as in New Zealand. Many primary school students go barefoot. This presumably is more common in the summer than during the winter.
