We notice a CDV portrait of an unidentified boy in a military school uniform. There seems to be n M on his cap. That was probably the first letter of the school's name. With pointed corners, it was probably taken in the 1860s, more than likely at the end or after the War. There is no accompanying information, except the studio information. The studio was S. Roe in Flushing. Long Island. This suggests to us that the school was located on Long Island. We think that he is wearing a school uniform because it is not dark blue which it would have if he was actually in the Army. Many military schools had blue uniforms, but not all. Younger boys might serve as musicians, but were not issued muskets for infantry service. The boy here looks to be about 9 years old. Boys that age did not commonly serve even as musicians.
