American Girl's Romper Suits: Chronology--The 1960s


Figure 1.--Here we see children engaging in a school, puppet show. One of the girls wore a summer romper outfit. Wevdonot know where in mweica the photgraoph was take, bit it was taken in 1962.

There were some developments with girls rompers during the 1960s. We note the last high schools with romper uniforms for girls gym swithing to short pamrs in the early-60s, ending decades of tradition. Something new appeared, we see girls weating one-piece romper outfits for casual wear. It became a popular summer syle for girls into their early teens. Some girls, mostly primary-age girls, might wear these romper outfits to school during warm days before summer vacation, but mostly play/casual wear during the summer. Thesesummer ompers were done in a range of styles and colors, but only for girls. They were offered in th mail order catalogs for an etended period.
