Specialized Soccer: Street Soccer

Figure 1.--Here we see boys and coaches watching a street soccer match in Belgrade, Serbia during 2007. The matches are played in cage-like enclosures.

Street soccer is a type of five-a-side football played in city streets. We notice it being played in Serbia, but think it is played in many other European countries. It is ideal for city enviriments where soccer pitches are not readily available. A Serbian reader writes, "There are street soccer tournaments organized all over Serbia. The finals are held in Belgrade each year during May. Both girls and boys play. The teams come in from all over Serbia. All the teams have a football kit. The area of play has a large net around it so the ball can't go out of the playing area. The teams seem to have a lot of fun playing the game." We note Serbian street soccer in 2007. The boys are playing in the national tournament.
