Figure 1.--This cabinet card portrait shows an unidentified boy wearing a Fauntleroy kilt suit anout 1890. The suit has a Fauntleroy cut away jacket and matching pleated kilt-skirt without kilt features. Because it is not black we can make out the cut of bnoth the jacket and kilt. He also has a Fauntleroy blouse, but with modest ruffles and a very small bow. His hair is done in ringlets with all the ringlets in the back. He looks to be about 5 years old and has a rather assured manner with the photgrapher for such a young boy. He is possibly from an acting family. A HBC reader has provide an additional assessment. "Also notice the bangs and the long hair is just at the back of the boys head. Also notice the blouse with the large collar ending in a ruffle that obviously needed ironing and the pleated skirt had to be buttoned to either a bodice or an underwaist. The blousing effect covers the waist of the skirt. The boy has matching cuffs that are part of the blouse. The cut away jacket is rounded in the front and the boy has a rather modest bowtie. His black stockings are thick hinting at his long underwear underneath and the button shoes are well worn so that the shine is affect."
