We still see American boys wearing Fauntleroy suits in the 1900s decade, but mostly fewer boys and mostly very young boys. Fauntleroy suits It is quite common to see some of the younger boys wearing Fauntleroy suits. The Fauntleroy Craze is commonly dated to 1885-1905. The 1900s decade was the tail end of the Fauntleroy Craze. And many of the boys wearing Fauntleroy suits were on the younger range of the boys in the 1880s and 90s. We mostly see very young boys wearing the fancy suits and this trend only increased as the decade progressed. Almost all of he examples we have found have been pre-school boys. This of course was also true during the 80s and 90s, but during these decades we also see a number of younger school age boys as well as substantial numbers of older boys wearing Fauntleroy rim and floppy bows. And many of the older boys wearing Fauntleroy-influence fashions wore standard suits with only Fauntleroy trim or associated items like floppy bows. And in this case the fancy collars and floppy bows were smaller than the main Fauntleroy Craze era. While most of the boys wearing Fauntleroy suits in the 1900s decade were quite young, we note a few older boys still wearing Fauntleroy suits. This is he last decade that we sill see the classic Fauntleroy suits.

This is he last decade that we still see the classic Fauntleroy suits. But there were still some school-age boy wearing them, but not to school. This unidentified Brooklyn boy wears clasic velvet cut-sawy jacket with a frilly Funtleoy blouuse. The blouse has a huge ruffled collar and front placket with eyelet lce edging. The boy loooks to be about 7-years old (figure 1). The portrait is not dated, but the mount suggests the 1900s decade. The studio was Ehm in Brooklyn, New York. We see fewer ofthese outfits in the 1900s decade, especially for school-age boys.
While we still see younger boys wearing Fauntleroy suits, however, Fauntleroy suits for school age boys were becoming much less prevalent, especially after 1905. Here we see a cabinet card portrait thathas no accompanying information, but the mount dates it to the 1900s decade. It is a new-style mount without studio information. The greenish-gray color is astng indicator of the 1900s. The boy pictured with his pooch looks to be about 8 years old. We can't makeout much detail about the jacket. He wears a frilly Fauntleroy blouse. but not one of the more elaborate blouses. The floppy bowis rather restrained. He is holding a hat, but we can't make out the type.
