Final Fauntleroy Era: Decade Trends -- The 1930s

Fauntleroy suits
Figure 1.--This postcard back portrait shows an unidentified boy wearing a short pants Fauntleroy suit. we at first thought it might be an American portrait, but the fancy blouse seems more lilely to be European. And the postcard back is definitely European. Germany seems the most likely contry, but ther is no way of telling for sure. We would guess it was taken in the early-1930s. The shoer cut shorts make the 30s moreb likely than the 20s.

The 1930s is the last decade that we see any number of boys wearing Fauntleroy suits. We still see some, but not very many. There is a problen dating undated images. There are similarities beteen the 1930s and 30s. Given the presence of other onservable elemets. We tend ton think that shorter-cut short pants were more likely in the 1930s. We still see many boys wearing longer-cut shorts in the 1920s. The Fauntleroy style was largely completed in the 1930s, but with relatively few boys. While actual Fauntleroy suit were not very common, we do continue to see some Fauntleroy stylistic touches. We seen some Fauntleroy outfits after the 30s, but mostly special formal events like weddings and not for standard dress-up wear.
