We know little about the boys pictured in the CDV here. All we know is that the photographer was Mrs Williams of Wolverhampton. By inserting the 'Mrs" she apparently felt that this would attract some customers. We are nor sure why, perhaps some women preferred to be photographed by women or felt they would do a better job with children. The boys are obviously brothers. They look to be about 4-6 years old. The younger boys has long ringlet curls and topp roll. We are not sure when the portrait was taken. CDVs were common in Britain far longer than in America. We would guess it das to the 1880s, perhaps the late-70s. We do not have enough dated images yet to make a more precise estimate. The boys are wearing identical sailor outfits with added Eton collars and long lanyards. The one difference we see is that the neckwear may be different. A reader writes,"There maybe another reason for the Mrs. I remember that my grandmother who I told you about opened a hat store in Manhattan for women only because she was afraid men would hit up on her customers were at the store if she sold to men. Maybe, some women were afraid to be photographed by men due to being alone with a man. If so, adding Mrs may attract that segment of the population."
