American Middy Blouse Collars: Types--Standard Pointed Collrs

boys middy blouse collar
Figure 1.--The standard sailor collar had a V-front. This American boy with his mother in the 1920s wears a less common style with pointed collars. Notice the stripe and star detailing.

Less commonly than the V-front we see ordinary ponited collars. This was not nearly as common as the "V"-front collar, but we do see some. We are not entirely sure about the chronology here. As far as we can tell, it seems about 1890s-1920s. We note them in America, but are unsure about other colors. Some of these collars had stripes. We also see stars added. In America we see quite a number of these collars with stars added. We also note these standard pointefd collars, even on Navy uniforms, but not very commonly. We notice this uniform style during the Spanish-American War (1898-99).
