The Indian National Cadet Corps (राष्ट्रीय कैडेट कोर)--NCC) traces its roots the Raj--British colonial India. This began wih the Imperial Cadet Corps (ICC). Imperial Cadet Corps was founded (1901). It was a military school founded to provide officer training to the Indian elite -- princes and gentlemen. Gentlemen meant the children of rich famikles. It was founded by Lord Curzon at Meerut and Dehradun (1901). Major D. H. Cameroon was the first commandant. Maharaja Pratap Singh of Idar was its Honorary commandant. The cadets were boys 17-20 years old. The Imperial Cadets were educated at one of the principal Indian colleges or public schools. This meant in British parlance a private secondary boarding schools. They were located at Rajkot, Indore, Lahore, Ajmer, or Raipur. The cadets join the corps at Meerut or Dehradun. We note the Corps formed up in fronynof the Delhi train station for the visit by the British Royal family in 1911 (figure 1). The ICC was closed during World War I (1917). It principal chievement was setting the precedent for the officer training of Indians in India. This led to the estbnloshment of the Indian Military Academy at Dehradun, one of the ICC facilties (1932).
