French Boy Choir Costumes: Les Poppys--Individual Boys

Figure 1.-- Les Petits Chanteurs d'Asnières appears to have been photographed outsie a Bavarian restaurant during 1969. The boys wear white shirts, dark ties, probably blue short pants, white kneesocks, and black leather shoes. Some of these boys began singing with the Poppys the following year.

Several of Les Poppys are notable for the beautiful music that they produced. We note a photograph of the PCAIF during a singing tour (1969). They were in Bavaria and posed in their uniforms. This was just before Les Poppys was formed. The boy siting on banister was named Olivier Antignac. As a solist he sang the French version "Let the sunshine in" from musical "Hair", almost a theme song of the Hippies movement. He died in 1995. He was only 38 years old. The little smilling boy sitting in the second row (his left leg is near right arm of the girl), is Philippe Sellier (9 years old, nick name "Coucou"). He became the Les Poppys' great star.

Philippe Magnan

Philippe Magnan was another important Les Poppys singer. He died in 2007 at the age of only 48.

Philippe Sellier

The little smilling boy only sitting in the Bavarian photograph sitting in the second row (his left leg is near right arm of the girl), is Philippe Sellier who was 9 years old at the time (figure 1). His nick name was "Coucou"). He was in the first group of Les Poppys. His brother Thierry also participated. Philippe became Les Poppys greatest star with his solo renditioins. We note another photograph of Philippe a few years later with Les Poppys. "Coucou" meant "cuckoo". A reader writes, "He was a good actor, but not a very good singer in fact."
