The amusements were a major attraction in the days before air travel and theme parks. Coney Island was for the first half of the 20th century the bet know beach and anusement park in America. After World War II as the middle class moved tohe suburbs and had the money for more extended vacations, Coney Island fell into neglect. In recent years, there has been something of a revival.
