Illustrators: Vladimir Suteev (Russian/Soviet, 1903-93)


Figure 1.--Vladimir Suteev was a prolific illustrator and creator of cartoons. Some people called him the "Russian Disney" for his incredible cartoons about animals. He was also an author and Usually illustrated his own stories. Here's an illustration for the tale "January" which is about fir trees.

Vladimir Suteev was a prolific illustrator and creator of cartoons. We have been unable to find much biographical information about V. Suteev. He is best known as an author and illustrator of children's books. He has published more than 40 titles. Many are well known, not only in Russia, but now the West as well. Some people called him the "Russian Disney" for his incredible cartoons about animals. He was also an author and Usually illustrated his own stories. Here's an illustration for the tale "January" which is about fir trees. Some of the books include That Apple Is Mine, The Chick and the Duckling, The Adventures of Snowwoman, and Meow!. A Russian reader tells us that one of his favorite Suteev book was the children's fairy tale The Crocodile, published in 1950. Note the outfit that the boy wears. It a Russian-styled shirt. It was a style based on peasant clothing.
