This new style cabinet card shows who we believe to be 4 year old John Lincoln Herat, (The script for the last name is a little indistinct.) As it is a new style cabinet card, the studio name and location is not indicated. The card is a good example of new styles, in this case small and narrow. The card is dated, we think 1904, but it cold be 1907. John wears a classic frilly Fauntleroy blouse, but with a very midestly sized floppy bow. The blouse is styled like the Faunrleroy blouses of the 1890s, but the bow is much smaller than 1890s bows. Younger boys in particular could have very large bows in the 1890s. He has knicker-style pants. Straight-leg knee pants were more popular at the time, but this was about to change. Younger boys like John did commonly wear bloomer knickers with tunic suits--a popular style at the time. John's outfit is completed with black long stockings and high-top shoes.
