We note a few Belgian boys wearing kilts in the 19th century. These were not Scottish Highland kilts, but the kilt-skirts worn a part of kilt kilt suits. This was a very popular style for American and British boys in the 19th century. We see some examples in other countries, but they are not very common. There was no tradiion of this outside Brutain and Btitish influenced ciuntries (the United States and thevBritish Empire). And so far the examplesfound most do not appear to be plaid. We are not yet sure how popular these kilt garmens were in Belgium. Thery do not seem vry commonm, but they did exist. Our archive at this time is too limited to make an assessment. We have not found many examoles. We note this boy from Brussels, we think in the 1880s (figure 1). Note that he is wearing it with a Scottish-styled Glengary cap. Kilts suits were also worn with suit jackets, but this boys wears the blouse type.
