Altmans in 1922 offered a range of sailor suits for younger boys from abour 2 to 8 years. In the 1922 catalog there was a suit with a rather small collar that was made in sized for boys uo to 10 years. For some reason it was designated a special style. The ad copy read: "F8F105. Sailor suit of all wool blue serge; a well tailored model, featuring a new small sailor collar, with embroidered stars; regulation yoke and emblem; 3 to 10 years. Exceptional value at $6.00." The model is shown wearing very long shorts at mid-knee and dark kneesocks. The suit was advertised in the fall-winter catalog. It came with short pants (perhaps kneepants) despite the fact that it was a fall-winter suit. Age 10 was probably close to the upper range for sailor suits in 1922. Some may have been made in size 11 or 12, but probably they were not very common.
