Mexican Schools: Unidentified Private School

Mexican private school

Figure 1.-- We have found an image of an unidentified private school, presumably in Mexico City. The dealer assured us this was a Mexican school. There is no information on the photograph, but the Defender stamp box means that it is not European. Notably the boys all look European. Mexico is a largely mestizo country. You do not see many mestizo faces. This is because the ruling class that sent their children to private schools was largely of European origins. The photograph is undated, but looks likes the 1920s which is conformed by the diamond inside the Defender stamp box.

We have little information on individual Mexican schools. Our Mexican archive is very limited and we have been unable to obtain many school photographs so far. We are not sure where the photograph was taken. It could be at the front of the school or perhaps on a field trip to some kind of museum or other site. Hopefully our Mexican readers with recognize the lion sculpture and be able to identify the building.
