Bondsville Elementary School

Figure 1.--This is portrait of a 3rd grade class at the Bondville Elementary School in 1928. Their wooden slat school can be seen in the background. The 3rd graders here would be about 9-years old. It is a fairly large class, about 43 children. The boys are dressed rather formally, most of the boys are wearing white dress shirts, many with narrow ties. One boys wear a classic sailor suit. Three boys are wearing vests. It is a little difficult to see what kind of pants that they are wearing, but we think they are knickers. Almost all are wearing long stockings with the knickers.

A few of the boys arewearing knee socks whuich will be come more important in the 1930s. The girls are in the back rows and it is difficult to make out what they are wearing.
