We still see cabinet card portraits in the 1920s, but they were becoming less common. TYhey were normlly done with contrasting framing like the one here. One of the boys is Brnard Moskowitz whose parents saved the portrait. It is a 1929 class portrait from the Driggs Elementary School in Waterbury, Connecticut. It is Miss Collins 4th grade class, meaning childern about 9-years old. We can see Miss Collins at the back. Picture day must have been announced. The boys all came to school wearing white shirts, some with ties. Almost all the boys we can see are wearing knickers, most with brightly patterned knee socks, but some are still wearing long stockings. One boy wears long pants. Many boys are wearing sneakers. Hard times and the Depression began in 1929. This portait was taken in June before the October stock maket crash. The girls are wearing dresses, but we can't make out much detail.
