Figure 1.-- Here we have a good look inside the St. Irenaeus School in Lyons, Iowa durung 1921. St. Irenaeus is a saint that we were not familiar with. Irenaeus was a Greek bishop nest known for his role in expanding Christianity in southern France. He was also instrumental in promoting the developing orthodoxy and weakening Gnostic concepts as heresy. Catholic churches in america are usually names after the better known saints, especially Mary and Joseph. Lyons was merged with Clinton (1895), but thename continued to be used for some time. They are located in eastern Iowa along the Mississippi River. We get a good look at the classroom and school furniture. Most of the boys, but not all are wearing suits. I
