Individual American Civil War Musician: Henry Locke

Figure 1.-- Here we note a cased Daguerreotype portrait of Civil War drummer boy. Unfortunately is is a not a very high quality portrait. Thanks for a note in case, we know who the boy was. The boy's name was Henry Locke. Unfortunately that is about all we know about Henry. A note was left in the Dag case. It reads, "Deborah's grandfather Henry Locke drummer boy in Civil War 1865".

Here we note a cased Daguerreotype portrait of Civil War drummer boy. Unfortunately is is a not a very high quality portrait. Thanks for a note in case, we know who the boy was. The boy's name was Henry Locke. Unfortunately that is about all we know about Henry. A note was left in the Dag case. It reads, "Deborah's grandfather Henry Locke drummer boy in Civil War 1865". This of course was he last few months of the War. The note was written many decades after the War. The name probably is reliable, but the date may or may not be reliable. Modern notes cannot be given the same credence as contemporary notes. Who ever wrote the note may have been referring to he date of the War rather than Henry's service. Henry looks very young, but it is difficult to tell much from the portrait.
