Figure 1.-- Here we have a class of 29 childtrn with their teacher ast tghe Kenwood School. We are not sure what grade we gave here, but we night guess 2nd graders, children 7-8 years old. This postcard back school portrait clearly dates to the 1910s because of all the hairbows the girls are wearing, but in this case the date is written on the back--1918. It was also obviously a city school. None of the boys are wearing overalls. In this case we know that the city was Minneapolis, Minnesota. The girls as best we can tell all wear a variety of dresses. We do not see blouses and skirts. Most of the bous wear white blouses rather than shirts. (You can tell by the way the garments blouse out at the waistline.)

More than half of the boys with white blouses wear ties. We see a few suit jackets and one boy wearing a heavy sweater. One boy wears a sailor suit and another a Rusian blouse. Tunic suitswere still popular at the time, but not generally wirn to school. All the boys we can see wear knickers with long black long stockings. Most of the boys wear highh-top leather shoes.
