Here we have a portrait taken at the Schubert School in 1911. We do not know where the school was located. We think the date is January which means based on how the children are dressed, it was not in the far northern tier of states. We would guess that the location was somewhere in the Midwest. It is a little tricky counting the stuents, but there are about 25 children picture with a single young male teacgher. (Most small rural schools had young female teachers.) The board the boy is holding clearly reveals the name of the school and the date the portrait was taken, but does not indicate the state. It also says P????? Valley, but we do not know what and where that is. Perhaps readers can make out the valley. That suggests a rural agricultural area, but based on the way the children are dressed this was not a farming area. If it was we would have seen overalls. What we see many of the children wearing are heavy cardigan sweaters. The low qualty image does not show the children very clearly, but it dies show the weaters. We see that a lot in the 1910s, but not usully so many. Given the name of the school, it is likely to be a community with many German immigrants. We note a Schubert's School in Chicago, but probably is not the same school. It is not the same school building which was built in 1930. There is a wide age range of students meaning that se have a school nd not a class portrait, meaning that it was probably a small one-room school which we think precludes Chicago.
